On the first Wednesday of every May, the Butler County Department on Aging holds its annual Spring Fling/Senior Resource Fair in El Dorado. This large event continues to grow and expand every year. At the May 2010 fair, approximately 450 people visited the fair, which has grown to include 102 vendor booths. The booths' central theme was services, products, and opportunities for anyone who is in their older years. This included in-home care agencies, chiropractors, senior centers, pharmacies, medical equipment suppliers, banks, volunteerism, and so much more. What an exciting time it was for both our staff and the participants.
The 102 booths were spread out over three different venues, which were: the El Dorado Civic Center, the El Dorado Community Building, and the Butler County History Center/Oil Museum. Anyone participating in the fair was able to go through the History Center at no charge. Each of the 102 booths had a prize drawing. Each venue gave visitors a chance to register to win this year's grand prize - a 32" flat screen television.
What was new this year?! The very popular PHOTO BOOTH! Every participant in this year's fair had an opportunity to step into the booth and get their picture taken. As you can tell, the booth was a place to break loose and have fun or just enjoy getting your picture taken. This was at no cost to the participants. Over a 100 people took advantage of this unique attraction, and everyone got their free strip of pictures. The annual Spring Fling/Senior Resource Fair would not be possible without our wonderful sponsors. Top Hat sponsors were El Dorado True Care Pharmacy, PT Plus, and the Andover Fountains. Our Star sponsors were Asera Care Hospice, Emprise Bank, Golden Living Center, Heritage Funeral Home, Jay Hatfield Mobility, Mercy Home Care, and Wesley Rehab Hospital. It would be impossible to hold the kind of quality event we pride ourselves on without the help of all of these wonderful sponsors.
Another perk of attending our Spring Fling included a free shuttle service. Over 230 rides were given to help participants park in one location and ride the air conditioned shuttle van to the other two locations. This helps minimize parking congestion and excessive walking. Visitors can also enjoy a monterey lunch at either the Civic Center or Community Building. The Augusta Senior Center prepared the lunches at the Community Building, and the Rose Hill Senior Center prepared lunches at the Civic Center. It was a huge fundraising affair for both senior centers.
The 2011 fair will soon be in the works. If you are interested in attending this event, check back with us in early winter when the confirmed date will be set. If you are a business interested in sponsoring or participating in the 2010 fair, please contact us. We would love to hear from you! If you had a booth last year, you will automatically receive an e-mail and postal invitation.
